I read a post about credit card and identity theft and I was
inspired to share my own experience. This happened three years ago in
Makati, Philippines. There was a
promotion in a shopping mall for a quick approval application (less than
two weeks) so I signed up for one to be delivered to my then residence.
Three weeks after, I didn't get any call, SMS or email so I called them
to follow-up on my application.
To my surprise and horror, I was told it was already delivered, received, and it's actually used 9 days ago it's almost maxed out. I had no idea of the person who received it when they read the name, so I requested for a copy of the delivery form and the bill. There I learned that the receiver's name is not even readable with a signature I have not seen before either.
I called the shopping malls where the card was used to request for a CCTV footage from the boutiques involved. This task is also very stressful as I had to go thru several managers and security personnel, multiple phone calls and transfers, and repetitive explanation. I had to shout several times before they would listen and process my request. I also had to wait for callbacks from managers before I could be attended to. By the time I spoke with the data storage personnel, the footage was already overwritten and could no longer be recovered. They said they could only keep video footages for two weeks before they are erased.
"Sorry Ma'am," is all I got.
In the end, the bank insisted that I pay for it even if I made a formal complaint to their credit card department.
It's a fight I no longer wish to fight so I filed complaints via email, postal mail, and phone. Still, I did not get a call or action from their department, just from the collecting agent asking me to pay up.
The hell I pay for their mess! If I knew, the operators and the postal delivery guys were all part of a grand scheming syndicate. No way will I ever trust mall promos or dealing with bank people operating in the malls.
